The following information identifies the requirements for passwords, separated into requirements (MUST) and best practice (SHOULD).

Passwords MUST:

• be over 8 characters long.
• NOT include parts for your name/username.
• NOT be shared with anyone.

Passwords SHOULD:

• include a mixture of: UPPERCASE letters, lowercase letters, numbers 0–9, symbols.
• be personal of your own choosing and not the same as you use for any other system.
• NOT include names of family members, pets, etc.

• NOT be one used in the last 20.
• NOT include parts of your username.
• NOT be shared with anyone.

Passwords SHOULD:

• be created using a mix of at least 3 random words
• be personal of your own choosing and not the same as you use for any other system.
• NOT include names of family members, pets, etc.
• NOT be written down or stored un-encrypted.
